September is the time to celebrate the fresh apple crop after months of apples coming out of cold storage. Galas are now being harvested out of the Sacramento Delta River and the San Joaquin Central Valley, less than 85 miles from San Francisco.

Beautiful deep purple seeded Concord grapes are highly aromatic.  We would even say they have a floral flavor. One bite and you are reminded of drinking a delicious glass of grape juice. That is because grape juice and grape jelly are made from Concord grapes!

Fresh dug fingerling new potatoes are now in season from Sunrise Organic Farm in Lompoc, California. New potatoes have not been cured, meaning that the skin is thin and delicate. New potatoes are often creamy and less starchy than more mature potatoes.  

California is winding down on apricots as the Pacific Northwest starts up. Now harvesting out of the Yakima Valley, sweet Robada and White Lightning apricots.

California Lemons are very tight as the season winds down early and the Mexico crop won’t start up until late July. Variegated Pink Lemons are a great alternative and easy to spot by their vibrant green streaks against a bright yellow background. The pretty pink flesh gives a nice burst of tartness and has less seeds than a Eureka lemon.

The California stone fruit season is off to an excellent start. Wonderfully sweet and juicy California peaches, nectarines, apricots and plums are now coming out of the Central San Joaquin Valley. Earl’s sells by the variety. Download Earl’s Stone Fruit Calendars and follow the flavor.

It’s Cherry season! California has a combination of nutrient-rich soil, abundant sunshine, and mild temperatures, producing sweet cherries. Hazel, Brooks, Coral and soon Rainier cherries arriving weekly! Learn more about each variety.

California Cherry season is just around the corner and we anticipate our first land of cherries the week of May 15th. The cherry season is very short in California and typically lasts 4 to 6 weeks depending on the weather or variety. This year we are anticipating a healthy crop. Growers were not affected heavily by frost and the trees have a healthy set.

The Durondeau Pear has a golden exterior with streaks of red blush and is covered all over in a soft russet. They are a bit tart with a crisp bite and a floral flavor.
