BUYER’S NOTES

FRUIT

fruit update

It's almost Lunar New Year (the Year of the Rabbit starts Sunday, January 22nd) and Fruit World is grateful for the break in the rain to harvest and pack Page Mandarins - one of their favorites! Super juicy, Page is a cross between a Clementine and a Minneola, which gives it a sweet but complex flavor and deep orange flesh. Fruit World Blood Oranges will continue through February. Fruit ripens internally to externally. Really great flavor and color with tart and raspberry flavors. Minneolas are super juicy and eating great out of hand. TDE Mandarins coming soon! New this week: Gold Nugget, Algerian and Lee Nova Mandarins. RVO Tangos arriving later this week.

Star Ruby and Rio Red Grapefruit have great flavor and volume.

Cara Cara Pink Navels a few more weeks with excellent flavor.

Pom Arils are done until Peru starts in a few weeks. Getting to the end of the California Kiwi season with smaller sizing with a seamless transition to Italian product. Asian Pears winding down. Grab Shin Li’s while they are available.

Back into a good rhythm with Equal Exchange Avocados out of Mexico as movement over the border becomes more fluid. Bacon Avocados are done with the rain ending the season early.

Strawberries looking better this week. California CWP Blueberries (12/6oz and pints) have great flavor as well as Blackberries and Raspberries from Mexico.

VEGETABLES

Sun Valley Romanesco and Colored Cauliflower on the horizon.
