STEVE CHINCHIOLO 4TH GENERATION APPLE GROWER

Steve Chinchiolo and family have been growing a variety of organic apples, grapes, stone fruit and almonds for 4 generations in California's Central Valley. It all started with Steve’s grandfather in the early 1920’s, primarily with field packed grapes shipped all over the east coast and into Canada. When Steve’s father joined the operation they started growing cherries, peaches, plums, nectarines and then added almonds. In the early 1980’s they transitioned mostly into apples starting with Fuji’s and Granny Smith’s and now he also grows Gala’s, Pink Lady’s as well as a fun and unique mix of heirloom apples for their cider company, Far West Cider.

Steve’s son Alex works closely with him on the farm and his other two children Adam and Andrea work primarily with Far West Cider. All of their apples and sometimes other fruit such as cherries, pluots and citrus are harvested and pressed into juice on their 100-year Old Ranch in Ripon, California. That juice is then cared for throughout fermentation, cellaring, and bottling at their cidery on the waterfront in the city of Richmond CA. Don’t miss their Very Juicy Gala Apple Cider, an extremely appley cider made with almost entirely fresh California Gala apples.

Gala apples are the first California apples to market and represent freshness! September is the time to celebrate the fresh apple crop after months of apples coming out of cold storage. Steve's Gala apples are grown less than 80 miles from San Francisco! Make sure to ask your produce manager for California apples when shopping at your local retailer.
