Earl’s Organic Produce, Inc., a leading distributor of organic produce throughout
Northern California, seeks a skilled Controller for our San Francisco
Wholesale Produce Market headquarters. 

The Controller oversees the daily accounting operations, including accounting,payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and administration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accomplish Accounting and Administrative strategies by determining accountabilities, communicating and demonstrating values,policies and procedures; training, coaching, counseling, disciplinary, planning, monitoring, appraising and reviewing jobcontributions;
  • Manage and supervise accounting functions including: General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, accountreconciliation, financial reporting and analysis;
  • Perform timely month-end and year-end closings;
  • Plan, organize and coordinate year-end processes with external auditors;
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles and regulatory requirements;
  • Supervise the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements, insurance reports, and other reports required by government regulations;
  • Ensure successful completion of the company’s tax filings are completed by the outside consulting firm;
  • Plan, budget and authorize expenditures and, where appropriate, monitor costs and expenses;
  • Hire and train competent accounting staff;
  • Supervise the processing of bi-weekly payroll while handling timekeeping and compensation issues;
  • Prepare financial forecasting reports and internal financial statements;
  • Evaluate and maintain adequate insurance policies to safeguard assets and minimize risks;
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and other available resources for annual benefits renewal decisions and benefitsadministation;
  • Serve as liaison for company business partners (law firm, service companies, brokers, );
  • Supervise compliance and maintenance of business licenses and permits;
  • Plan and coordinate administrative procedures and systems and devise ways to streamline processes;
  • Ensure smooth and adequate flow of accounting and administrative information within the company to facilitate other businessoperations;
  • Assist in the management of project schedules and deadlines when needed;
  • Monitor inventory of office supplies and the purchasing of new material with attention to budgetary constraints;
  • Keep abreast of all organizational changes and business developments;
  • Perform other duties as directed, developed or assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education and/or Experience: A./B.S. in accounting or finance; 5-10 years’ hands-on experience in accounting; including managerial experience.
  • Language Skills: Excellent Communication skills including reading, writing, and verbally communicating effectively andprofessionally with other business departments, customers, and Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situationsand people while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism.
  • Technical Skills: Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to think independently and to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of different situationswithout set Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, report or schedule form.
  • Other Skills & Abilities: Ability to analyze/evaluate data and make appropriate decisions/recommendations. Ability to multi-task in a time-pressured Excellent organizational skills. High accuracy in work with attention to detail. Positiveapproach to alternative points of view; an ability to create agreement. Understanding of the importance of positive accountability. Strong strategic sensibility. Full understanding and working knowledge of GAAP.
