Holiday Produce Update

Can you believe Christmas is only one week away? If you’re planning what to serve for your holiday dinner here is a quick produce update for you.

On the fruit front clementines and satsumas are winding down but can still be found through the holidays.

Clementine and Satsuma with Stem and Leaf

There is lots to look forward to with navels, grapefruit, cara cara’s, minneolas and meyer lemons coming on strong.  Fuyu and hachiya persimmons are winding down and as we go into the New Year they will cease to exist.  Melons are winding down out of Mexico for the holidays but look for them again during the for spring time.

On the veg side celery is extremely tight due to the cold and rainy weather.  Expect prices to be much higher than usual. Carrot prices have gone up due to supply.  Growers out of Salinas and Sacramento are starting to wind down and California production has mostly moved down into the Coachella, Imperial Valley and Yuma, Arizona areas.  Warmer vegetables such as yellow squash, green beans, peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, basil and snap peas are now coming out of Mexico.
