Forbidden Fruit Blueberries Hit Hard

Forbidden Fruit blueberries are just starting to produce a little after being hit hard with the frost in early February. Unfortunately with the rain arriving on Tuesday this week it is going to shut down their production.  The blueberries won’t ripen when it rains and there is no sun.  Owner Sandy Newman says that it takes a lot of sunny days to get the fruit ripe. Lompoc, located halfway between San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara gets a high temperature on a good day of around 70. The rain will bring cloudy days and Sandy is anticipating she won’t have blueberries to harvest until early to mid-May depending on how the weather continues.
