SANGUINELLI BLOOD ORANGES

The unique and pretty Sanguinelli Blood Orange is distinguished by its oblong egg shape and rind that has the brightest color of all the blood oranges, often a stunning cherry red. The flesh is tart and sweet and can have a berry-like undertone. The internal color can be orange with reddish streaks when grown in California’s warm interior central valley. The Sanguinelli has less seeds than the Moro variety and is harder to peel. This makes it a perfect orange for juicing.

We recommend mixing varieties for a more complex flavor. Try blending Tangos, Murcotts and Blood Oranges together for a visually stunning juice with great flavor. Blood Oranges are packed with vitamin C, carotenoids and are high in potent antioxidant properties. Choose a blood orange the same as you would any citrus, look for the heaviest fruit which means more juice.

Brought to America in the 1930's by Italian and Spanish immigrants Blood Oranges are now grown commercially in Central and Southern California, Texas and Florida. The season starts in San Diego County, overlaps and finishes in the foothills of Fresno County.
